Pat Lydersen has a Masters degree in theatre and over thirty-five years experience as an actress, director, teacher and playwright. She began her career as an actress and a drama and dance teacher, helping her students write and perform original plays. Coming to Encinitas in 1985, Pat co-founded The Park Dale Players, producing plays she wrote, made the costumes and set for, as well as directed.

The Park Dale Players has been a fixture in North County children’s theater for the last 30 years. They have produced four to eight original musicals a year, all of the scripts written by Pat with the music composed by Wendy. With Pat and Joanna directing Wendy as musical director and Joanna adding her talents as choreographer, their plays are written specifically to give every child a special character to play. Everyone has lines, everyone sings, everyone dances.

Imagination:
Thinking Out of the Box

When writing, composing, choreographing and designing for children's theater, two words are critical: IMAGINATION NEEDED.
My artwork honors the tremendous imaginations of the three ladies who have created a very unique children's theater called The Park Dale Players. Having seen a few of their plays to prepare me for this project, I was completely unprepared for the enthusiasm and fun that I, and adult, would have watching a children's theater performance! And so I was inspired by my reaction to create a fun piece, one that would hopefully impart a bit of interpretive imagination to the viewer.

Mixed Media Artist

I am a mixed media artist who uses clay, paint, collage, and textiles in my work. I sometimes say that I am self-taught, but that is not totally true. I've taken painting and drawing classes. I've gone to mixed media art workshops. However, it wasn't until I took a clay class that I discovered my imagination. Then came book arts, an art form in which I could express myself through collage and paint, and remind myself where I had traveled physically and metaphorically. Next came the dolls, an art form of unintended storytelling. All art has two stories. . that of the artist and that of the viewer.
