StoryArts General Fund

If you would like to join in supporting StoryArts you may choose to have your contribution devoted to a specific project, either the Hidden Treasures Fund or the Martha Neal Brown Fund (see below).
However, if you prefer you can also allow us to allocate your donation by supporting our General Fund, which we use to support our administrative costs, such as this website, online grant search programs, office supplies, recording equipment, printing services, storage for our archives, liability insurance and our Founding Director's stipend. We are very fortunate and exceedingly grateful, due to Adele Sloboda our Board Treasurer, to have all our bookkeeping services donated.
During our thirteen years in existence we have become known for being a solid, competent organization with steadfast community support, which makes the most of our hard-earned, limited financial resources.

"We moved from New York to California in 1977 leaving behind our Jewish relatives who always made an effort to keep family stories alive by telling and retelling them, often. We really liked our new beginnings here in California, but did miss the feeling of personal and family history we left behind. As time went on we began to build our own history in San Diego making many lifelong friends. One of them was Lois Sunrich who re-introduced us to the importance of celebrating life's stories.
We've known Lois since 1980, and in 2006 started working with her through StoryArts when our son Evan joined their intergenerational Legacies Project in our hometown of Solana Beach. It was a powerful vehicle for him to learn about his community and the value that Elders bring as they pass down the story of their lives through the generations. Their stories were rich and varied; from Holocaust survivors to wedding dress memories, to establishing Eden Gardens, one of the oldest Mexican settlements in San Diego.
StoryArts is masterful in its community building, dignifying in its family recording and forthright in its personal retrospections. We wholeheartedly support the initiatives of StoryArts and its founder, Lois Sunrich".

Hidden Treasures: A Story Arts Community Project
Hidden Treasures is an intergenerational project training young emerging artists to use story arts to honor hidden leaders in their hometown. We are currently excited about raising funds in hopes of producing this project here in Encinitas, with local donor's contributions, along with city and county grants.

"When we share our stories, we share our lives, building community for everyone, both those who have touched us and those we touch. It's pure magic…as is StoryArts.
From the first time I sat down with five strangers and created my first Mini Memoir art booklet some twelve years ago, I remain captivated by StoryArts and the contributions made by this organization's dedicated community members. Here's my guarantee. Make a donation to StoryArts, Inc. What you receive will far outweigh your gift."

The Martha Neal-Brown Fund

Picture
Martha was a beloved and influential founding member of StoryMakers, whose vision for our Celebration 2000 seeded the concept of StoryArts' Memoir Openings. Due to Martha's highly refined interest and literary knowledge of memoir and her active participation in helping women tell their life stories, we have created this fund. It is our intention to honor Martha by helping deserving and talented women in our community write and publish their stories who otherwise might not have the opportunity.

"Story Arts is a phenomenal way of getting stories told through a variety of different means, whether it is one's own life, or a portion of a life, or preserving an Elder's entire life journey. I personally was drawn into StoryArts by the Legacies Project, an intergenerational project pairing up Youth and Elders in their hometown. The reward came for me with the stories being told by Elders as Youth were appreciating their partner's life stories and learning about the times in which they lived, which the Youth then put into both a written piece and an art book, for which StoryArts produced a public reading. The multitude of projects that Story Arts has produced over the years is significant and allows the audience to enjoy what life can be."
