Eric Larson had finally gotten what he wanted. For two years he had been waiting, two years of driving without his own car. But now he had it: a brand new Ford flatbed truck. His friends were amazed at the automobile, and the fact that Eric could drive it at only the age of ten. It had cost him $15, an amount of money he had to work very hard for a long time for. Imagine if you could start to learn to drive at the age of eight! This was because the automobile was so new, there were no driving licenses or age restrictions yet. Eric and his friends would go anywhere in his new flatbed truck, and his buddies would usually be there with him. Unfortunately, there were flaws with those cars since they were newly developed. It did not have very good gas mileage, the tires would always have to be replaced because they would pop, and people would always fall off the side. On the back area of the truck there were no rails to prevent people from falling out, so it would happen usually whenever they went over any bump if someone wasn’t holding on. They would always laugh and stop for them, whether it was a toddler or a teen. Fortunately, nobody became road kill, as it was common for people to get run over and stuck on top of the wheel, but under the car. Because this never happened to anyone they personally knew, the fun lasted for a long time. Eric eventually got a new, better car that cost about $250, but he will always remember his first car: The Ford Model T flatbed truck. |
