Community

Community may be the result of natural events or may result from planned or organized activities. It may grow out of family connections or neighborhood or religious groups or it may result from intentional activities, like writing or art or music. Even eating together regularly may promote a feeling of community as it does in family life. However it occurs, it is a vital ingredient in our happiness and well-being.

The science of happiness tells us that almost every person feels happier when they are with other people. The quality of our experience is enhanced by sharing life with others.

Participating in a supportive community provides us opportunities to try out new ways of behaving, to support others and be supported. It enriches our lives, expands our vision of what may be possible when we work with others. An effective community encourages diversity and promotes acceptance and individual growth.

A supportive community offers us a rich mix of people, freedom to express ourselves in new ways, opportunities to try out new behavior.

StoryArts brings together younger generations and Elders in a community art project with the goal of sharing stories and finding creative ways to preserve those stories. Both groups are encouraged to appreciate the lives and experiences of the other. In the process, the lives of all are enriched and expanded and publication of those stories brings enlightenment and enjoyment to the larger community.
