Webster's definition of art:
"The expression of human creativity, with the unique perspective of the
artist."
|
|
The art of living, the art of creating, the art of storytelling … all of these
are present in the Legacy Project. Throughout the ages the story of life has
been told through art, displayed in unique creative expression.

During the past year, Elders have opened their lives to another generation.
They have pulled out sacred photos, told of loved ones passed away, shared the
joys, sorrows and achievements of their lives. The Youth have devoted time and
energy to passing on their Elder’s stories. They asked the questions, listened
carefully, and translated the Elder’s stories into written word and images;
into art.

In this project, Elders and Youth, together, have carried on the tradition of
all artists. By using conversation and creativity they have preserved life,
through stories, stories that might otherwise have been lost. In doing so they
have honored these histories with a new perspective and enduring life.

We, as a community, are all the richer for their imagination and courage. This
is art in the truest sense of the word.
