Dedicated to Laura Hansen and B. J. Spitler
The late B.J. Spitler, founder of Age Concerns, pioneered a new geriatric care management business model that combined care management with home health care services and emphasized high levels of training and professionalism for all members of the care-giving team. She was a remarkable woman, who many community leaders, locally and nationally, feel privileged to have known. B.J.’s work and her spirit are a continuing inspiration for social workers in today’s professional elder care environment.
Laura Spitler Hansen, B.J.’s daughter and business partner for 13 years worked with her mother on the evolution of Age Concerns, birthing it from a small private geriatric care management firm into a multimillion-dollar corporation. When Laura became Age Concerns’ CEO she developed a spiritually-based corporate leadership model to deal with the challenges of managing an elder home care business, which became a national model. Laura is now engaged in reawakening her innate, multiple artistic talents, as well as continuing her spiritual practices and pilgrimages, as she passionately follows her life’s path of creativity and service.
